Poliça - Leading to Death
Sound: Electronic, Indie, Funk, Phantogram-y
This whole album is very good.
This song is fun. Fun is missing from a lot of music these days. You guys, what happened to fun? Too much Garden State, staring sad guy and not enough Summer School, staring Mark Harmon.
This song sounds like if Phantogram went on a great first date with Bon Iver’s auto tuned songs. I want to be on that date. Three-way-dates! Do people do that? Lets start that.
Penny and Sparrow - Creature
Sound: Folk, Falsetto, Indie, Bon Iver-y
Crushing, man. Crushing.
(sound found from Kayla)
The Careful Ones - Paper Knees
Sound: Folk, Americana, Falsetto, Banjo, Bon Iver-y, Paper Route-y,
Falsetto punches my heart. And it massages my brain. This is very good music.
Also, if you feel like crying to piano they made an excellent song called Slow Dance on Broken Glass.
ITS MY BEST OF 2011 LIST!!!
Oh, man— this list is going to change the world.
The list is bookended by Bon Iver, which makes sense because I bet the number of days in 2011 I listened to Bon Iver outnumbered the days I didn’t. (The final song has my favorite lyrics of the year hidden in it.) I cut a lot of great songs to hit the 20 mark. (which is retarded because I made the mark up myself, I could have made it 25, or 40) A lot of people/blogs/shit-faces are saying 2011 wasn’t as great as 2010 in music. And I guess, I agree. There weren’t as many stand out albums that were mind blowing; but looking back at the list I am happy. Lets get to it:

Bon Iver - Skinny Love
Sound: High Pitched Male Vocals, Acoustic, Blue-sy, Folk, “Breaking Up with the Worst and Best Part of your Life”
Justin Vernon has been an obsession of mine for a few years now. And the one (of many) snobbery tidbit I have is: You haven’t heard Skinny Love, until you have heard it live. Its fucking magic. The vulnerability is at an all time high and the live arrangement really uses the percussion to hug the song. Last night’s Colbert Report gives you a good idea of what its like.
