MY SXSW, 2012
Since when am I the guy that goes to SXSW? All of a sudden I was on a flight to Austin and seeing shows. I had a blast and it was because of two beautiful men named Darryl and Dashiell that got me into any fucking show the entire time. Some of the most notable acts:
Araabmuzik (MPC electronic hip hop) melted my face off at the TurntableFM party.
I got to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (indie rock) twice. They were incredible! Darryl and I shout sang our way through “When I Open My Eyes”. Also, they know how to nail a cover.
The Hood Internet (hip hop mashups) spun everywhere. I caught them once and they know how to keep mashupsfresh in 2012.
Incan Abraham (space-chill-postrock?) was a delight that I had never heard of before. Take a listen. Imagine how good that would be live. Its excellent.
I was lucky enough to see Chingon (Spanish rock) live, and I cannot say enough how much they fucking ruled live. Fucking ruled. I need to search my hood for more stuff like this.
Also ran into Brother Ali on the street. I was way too gone to tell him how great he was though.
The Drums (surf rock) know how to get a crowddancing. Also, the know how to get a crowd singing about surfing in a land locked town.
My last show was Miike Snow (electronic) at the Hype Hotel. When they are great, they make you fucking dance. And when they aren’t, it leaves you yelling “bummer!” at the top of your lungs. None-the-less, I got my cathartic dancing done to “Black and Blue”.
