Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
Sound: Indie, Alternative, Peter Gabriel
Dirty Darryl (rillawafers) told me I needed to give a good listen to Gotye’s new album and fuck was he right. Although Gotye can get lost in a generic rock (OneRepublic/Guster) spiral, I think there is enough there to make him stand out. Vocally, I think he studied at the school of Peter Gabriel, which was an excellent choice.
Lyrically, its almost identical in format to Postal Service’s Nothing Better and I am totally okay with that. Its a good story. The story of a man pissed a relationship is over and then a lady swoops in and says “WHOA WHOA WHOA, it was your fault, dick.”
I also really like Gotye’s Eye’s Wide Open. Much more upbeat and the Peter Gabriel-ness soars.
